The British Columbia Used Oil Management Association (BCUOMA) is a not-for-profit society that operates a province-wide collection and recycling program dedicated to collecting and recycling lubricating oil, oil filters, oil containers, antifreeze and antifreeze containers from both the do-it-your-self market as well as the commercial and industrial markets. Our goal is to provide British Columbians with an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to dispose of our program materials and keep everyone safe. Each year, approximately 50 million litres of oil and 3 million litres of antifreeze are collected and responsibly managed through our program.
The Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable (MARR) is a not-for-profit stewardship agency created to implement and operate a stewardship plan for end-of-life major household appliances in the province of British Columbia (BC) on behalf of the major appliance “producers” who are obligated under the BC Recycling Regulation. The MARR plan is focused on enhancing the performance and transparency of the existing market-based system of collecting and recycling major household appliances in BC.
Encorp Pacific (Canada) better known as Return-It is the industry-owned not-for-profit stewardship agency, responsible for managing B.C.’s beverage container recycling system and implementing deposit increases. Return-It provides convenient, efficient, and environmentally sustainable collection networks for everyone in B.C. Return-It has been leading extended producer responsibility performance in Canada for 26 years and has diverted more than 21 billion beverage containers from the landfill.
As Western Canada’s largest independent rendering company, we are a Vancouver-based, family owned and operated company that started over 50 years ago as a single butcher shop. Now we conduct operations in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Vancouver and Nanaimo, providing a necessary service to farms, feedlots, restaurants, supermarkets and processors of beef, pork, poultry, and fish. In total, we recycle about 1 billion pounds of raw material every year in Western Canada and help sustain our food industry.
The BC Brewers’ Recycled Container Collection Council (BRCCC) leads the way in environmental stewardship to achieve the highest return rate for alcoholic beverage containers and related packaging. Brewers Distributor Ltd. (BDL) is the service provider for BRCCC and the company responsible for distributing beer to over 4,000 provincial liquor stores, private licensee retail stores, bars, restaurants and other licensed establishments. Of course that makes BDL the perfect choice to operate an efficient beer container recycling system. Combining product delivery with container pickup just makes sense.
Founded in 1994, Call2Recycle—North America’s first and largest battery stewardship program—is a non-profit organization that collects and recycles batteries at no cost for municipalities, businesses and consumers. Since 1996, Call2Recycle has diverted more than 45 million kilograms (100 million pounds) of batteries and cellphones from the solid waste stream and established over 30,000 collection sites throughout Canada and the U.S.

Recycle BC is a not-for-profit organization responsible for residential packaging and paper product recycling throughout British Columbia, servicing over 1.8 million households or over 98% of BC through curbside, multi-family and/or depot services. We ensure packaging and paper product is collected from households and recycling depots, sorted and responsibly recycled. Recycle BC provides recycling services either directly to communities or by working in partnership with local governments, First Nations, private companies, and other not-for-profit organizations. Our program is funded by businesses, like retailers, manufacturers and restaurants that supply packaging and paper product to BC residents, shifting costs away from homeowners.
Tire Stewardship BC is the agency in BC that formed to help producers (retailers) fulfil their obligations and focus on the collection and recycling of tires. To operate a scrap tire program in BC the producers must have a ministry-approved stewardship plan. The plan outlines how the program will run and how the obligations of the retailers will be met. The stewardship plan must be renewed every five years.
